C. Lowell Gearhart
GREENCASTLE, Pa. – C. Lowell Gearhart, 89, of Long Lane, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Menno-Haven in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Dec. 4, 1910, in Antrim Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel and Nora Fox Gearhart.
He was a 1928 graduate of Greencastle High School; and a graduate of Shippensburg Teachers College in Shippensburg, Pa.
He was an elementary school teacher in the Greencastle-Antrim area for 45 years; he also was a farmer.
He was a member of Hades Church of the Brethren near Waynesboro, Pa., and was an elder and minister.
He had driven a school bus for the Greencastle-Antrim School District.
He was a member of Pennsylvania State Employees Retirement Association.
He is survived by his wife, Helen I. Zimmerman Gearhart, whom he married May 2, 1933; two daughters, Arlene L. Martin of Greencastle and Linda M. Wagaman of Chambersburg; three sons, Dale L. Gearhart of Shady Grove, Pa., Dean E. Gearhart of Waynesboro and Karl L. Gearhart of Greencastle; a brother, Gerald R. Gearhart of Shady Grove, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Angle and Leota Negley; and a brother, Kenneth Gearhart.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hades Church of the Brethren. The Revs. George Martin and Donald Clapper will officiate. Burial will be in Hades Cemetery.
