Paul E. Shockey *
Paul E. Shockey, 77, of Washington, W.Va., passed away June 19, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Paul was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Ravenswood, the son of Carl and Maude Emerick Shockey.
Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked for a few years at Timken Bearing in Canton, Ohio. He then spent 34 years with Kaiser (Century) Aluminum, Ravenswood Works, where he retired. Paul loved the outdoors and, after retirement, spent a lot of time camping and fishing with friends in central West Virginia.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his second wife, Barbara; a brother, Alan (Barbara) Shockey; and a sister, Dorothy (Jim) Marsell. Paul is also survived by four children, two stepchildren and their spouses, daughters, Paula Shepherd and Catherine Sargent; sons, Douglas Shockey (Sandra) and John Shockey (Trudie); stepsons, Terry Burner (Carol) and Mark Burner (Barbara); and longtime friends and family members, Thomas Sargent. Ron Shepherd and Arthur Winer.
Paul is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Michael Shepherd (Stacey), Michelle Shepherd Phillips, Jason and Justin Sargent, Nicole Shockey McMillion (Robert), Kayleigh, Jacob and Katelyn Shockey and T.J., Lori and Sarah Burner; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Smith Shockey; infant son, Joseph; and sister, Lorene Reynolds.
The funeral service for Paul will be 11 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Tom Butterfield officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
