Norma M. Shelahamer *
Norma M. Shelahamer, 95, a lifelong resident of West Hanover Township, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at UPMC Community Osteopathic. Born April 22, 1926, in West Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Emma (Reidell) Koons. Norma was the widow of Paul E. Shelahamer since December 2007 after 64 years of marriage and was also preceded in death by siblings Marian Cassel, George Koons, Helen Pletz, Mary Mumma, Betty Houck and Eleanor Cline. Norma’s passion, in addition to farming side-by-side with her husband Paul for nearly 65 years, was trying new recipes. She collected cookbooks and was always looking for that special dessert to make for her hubby. Everyone especially loved her Angel food cakes – they melted in your mouth. Norma loved her family, gospel music, and being a farmer’s wife. She took pride in planting a truck patch every summer and enjoyed canning her produce. Even though farming was hard work, it was a way of life for Norma and Paul and they wouldn’t have changed it for the world. Surviving are her daughters Rosemary L. Deibler of Hummelstown and Pauletta M. Shelahamer of Harrisburg; granddaughter Wendy K. Stevens (Paul) of Leesburg, Florida; great grandchildren Brittni O. Shockey and A. J. Talley; great great grandchildren Parker and Clayton Shockey; sister Annetta Rexrode of Harrisburg; and brother Donald Koons of Harrisburg. A Service of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 PM Monday, August 2, 2021 at Shells Cemetery, 287 Shells Church Road, Grantville preceded by a viewing starting at 1:00 PM also at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church that Norma was a member of: Shells Evangelical Lutheran Church, 287 Shells Church Road, Grantville, PA 17028. Guests are encouraged to wear masks.
