August “Augie” Lagar Jones, 90, of Wheatland, Wyoming, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the Platte County Legacy Home.
Augie was born on Saturday, March 24, 1934, he was known for his vibrant spirit and passion for entertainment. Throughout his life, he captivated many with his musical talents, often found playing guitar and singing karaoke, especially with his best friend, Donna Halverson. Augie cherished his summers camping at Grey Rocks Reservoir, embracing the great outdoors.
Augie proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, followed by 19 years in the National Guard. His dedication to service was mirrored in his professional life, where he worked as an auto mechanic and later as a van driver for the railroad.
Beyond his public life, Augie found solace and community within the congregations of Oregon Trail Baptist Church, First Christian Church, and Memorial Baptist Church, where he was an active and beloved member.
He is survived by a loving family, including his brother, Dellhart Jones; sister, Darlene Woodbridge; children, Maleta Rueschhoff (Bernard), Vernon Jones (Ginger), Janet Garrison (James), Donald Jones (Veva), Timothy Jones (Shari), Michael Jones, and Cindy Keeling; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his dear friends, Donna Halverson, Tyler, Kim, Juliana, and Jacelyn Schiele.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Minnie Whitney Jones, Mary Shockey Burke, Beth Jones, and Gary Keeling.
Augie’s life was marked by his joyous personality and his love for playing pool, alongside his musical and outdoor adventures. His legacy will be remembered by all who knew him as a man who brought laughter and music wherever he went.
No funeral or memorial service will be held. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
