Bertha Shockey *
Funeral services for Bertha M. “Betty Boop” Shockey, 79, of Brooklyn Park will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Gonce Funeral Service, 4001 Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Shockey died of natural causes Nov. 1 at her home after a 16-year illness.
She was born July 23, 1927, in Baltimore. She lived in Brooklyn Park for 55 years.
Mrs. Shockey was a switchboard operator at Fort George G. Meade for four years and a customer service representative and switchboard operator at the former North Arundel Hospital for two years.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 195 Ladies Auxiliary.
A devoted bingo player for 65 years, Mrs. Shockey also enjoyed playing cards with many groups and her family members over the years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John A. Robinson; her parents, Carolyn D. Quandt and James E. Bush Sr.; one stepson, Steven M. Shockey; one brother, James A. Bush Sr.; and one sister, Charlotte Bush Reid.
Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Kenneth J. Shockey Sr.; five sons, Warren and Michael Robinson of Baltimore, John T. Robinson of Dayton, Ohio, Tony Robinson of Hanover and Terry Robinson of Catonsville; one daughter, Carly Ryan of Brick, N.J.; three stepdaughters, Linda Finley of Jarrettsville, Nancy Becker of Severna Park and Colleen Jackson of Hanover, Pa.; two stepsons, Kenneth J. Shockey Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Glenn Mathew Shockey of Baltimore; one brother, James E. Bush Jr. of Baltimore; one sister, Joan Elizabeth Christopher of Severn; 36 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Gardens.
