Bulah B Shockey *

Bulah Bernice Shockey, age 89, a longtime resident of Marysville, died Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 31, 1935 in a one-room shanty in Clay City, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father, George Henderson; her mother, Hazel Smith Payne; her step-father, Delbert Payne, Sr.; and her step-mother, Vivian Henderson.
She was also predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Charles William “Bill” Shockey; her son, George Edward Shockey; and her daughter, Rachel Lee Miller; her half-brothers, Delbert Payne, Jr., Elmer Payne and Arthur Payne; and her in-laws, Ola and Carl “Cod” Simpson, Harold and Betty Shockey and Norma and Dago Breece.
Bulah was a school cafeteria cook “lunch lady,” who, throughout her career, made sure that no child went hungry. She and her late husband, Bill, owned Shockey’s Marathon and Wrecker Service and Sunoco gas stations. She also worked at the Certified Station.
For some time, she worked as a housekeeper and as a waitress in Bellefontaine, where she was known for her pie baking.
She loved playing Bingo, attending flea markets and was a member of Marysville VFW Post 3320. She liked traveling to Branson, Missouri for the shows and concerts and taking her family to the Smokey Mountains and to her hometown of Clay City, Illinois.
She is survived by four daughters, Becky Schertzer of Marysville, Mary (Rodney) Price of Marysville, Jane (Mark) Reisinger of Marysville and Ann (David) Reid of Russellville, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Rhonda (David) Stiffler, Shannon (Marty) Gale, Shawn (Cami) Schertzer, Shelly (Rick) Jones, Angie (Aaron) Davidson, Shane (Sharon) Reisinger, Barbie (Kris) Laughbaum, Brandy (Clayton Ramey) Reisinger, Luke (Melanie) Reisinger, Steven Anderson, Andrew (Stephany Addy) Lowe, Brian Lowe, Jody Stephens, Jimmy Lowe and James (Heather) Shockey; her great-grandchildren, Aries, Audrey, Alyssa, Jacob, Olivia, Brian, Ambur, Cody, Amanda, Matthew, Dakota, Taylor, Jamie, McKenzie, Damon, Jonathan, Cheyenne, Jasmine, Jourdain, Dallas, Kiersten, Hunter, Kristopher, Chelsea, Tre, Brittiane, Sydney, Madisyn, Jaxxsyn, Caisyn, Hudsyn, Darrisyn, Lainey, Jace, Alexa, Jaylynn, Grady, Gabrielle, Camille, Evan and Joe; many great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lela Pugh; a step-sister, Margo Eyman; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 East Fifth Street, Marysville. Graveside services to bury her ashes will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2025 at Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center.
