Charles A Shockey *

Mr. Charles Alexander (Alec) , 82 of Ridge Summit, PA, died Saturday, August 26th, ; he had been in declining health over the last several months.

The son of the late Charles Franklin Shockey and Irma (Alexander) was born in Waynesboro, PA on November 5th . He attended Smithburg Senior High School, Smithburg, MD. He joined the Army and did basic training in Fort Knox, KY, went on to Fort Dix for communications and then transferred to the National Guard in Highfield, MD. After servicing his time, he worked at Truck, Fairchild, Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation as a machinist and worked as a supervisor at Machine Shop. After time in the machine shops, he received his Thorough Breed training licenses for his love of horses and the sport.

Alec is survived by two sisters Mary Esta (Shockey) Scruggs and Charlene (Shockey) , his 2 sons Mark Shockey (Staci) of Mercersburg, Pa and Michael Brian Shockey (Crystal) Waynesboro, Pa, 4 Grandchildren Andrea (Shockey) Main, Kelsey (Shockey) Green, Zachary Shockey and Megan Shockey and 4 great grandsons and several nieces and 1 nephew.

Alec was a free spirit; he had a passion for horses and spent time in Charlestown, WV and Ocala, training horses and traveled to race tracks all over the East Coast. In his earlier life he enjoyed playing men’s softball Leagues in Waynesboro softball leagues as well as tournaments. a passion he passed onto his sons. He enjoyed shooting pool and played in several 8 and 9 ball leagues and participated in several tournaments through of this year. He enjoyed watching professional sports and was an avid Orioles baseball fan and Raiders football fan as well. He enjoyed watching live horse races as well as watching races on TV. He enjoyed going to watch his great grandsons play baseball.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in LCBC Church, 13450 Midvale Road, Waynesboro with Pastor Tim Carver officiating.  Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, MD.
