Dessie Comus

ST. MARYS – Dessie Louise , 78, 805 Magnolias Street, died Friday, Jan. 29, at 4:54 p.m., at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital. She was born March 20, in Wabash, IN to Harvey and Irene . On Aug. 25, she married Louis F. Comus and he survives. She is also survived by two sons and their wives: Louis F. Jr. and Patricia Comus of Phoenix, AZ and Stephen F. and Irene Comus of Whittier, CA; two brothers: Camptain (Ret.) Daniel N. Shockey of Beaverdam, VA, David Shockey of Redkey, IN; three sisters: Doris Hesting of Howell, MI, June Maxedon of , KY, Donna Fisher of Scottsdale, AZ; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Constance Irene Comus, who died in and two sisters: Deema and Dorothy Bollinger. Mrs. Comus was a 1937 graduate of Wabash High School in Wabash, IN and a graduate of Miami University in Oxford. She persued post graduate studies at the University of London in England. She was an elementary teacher in the St. Marys City Schools for 17 years. She received the Martha Holden Jennings membership award. She was instrumental in starting Cub Scouts in St. Marys and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader. She managed the local Dairy Queen for five years. She was a member of Street United Methodist Church wehre she served as a Sunday School teacher and originator of Junior Church. She was Worthy Matron of Hawthorne Chapter 119, Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was named Women of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. David Woodyard officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home where Hawthorne Chapter 119 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society for Hodgkins Disease Research, or to the donor’s choice, in care of the funeral home.
