George W. Shockey Sr. *
George Washington Shockey, Sr., 74, died at 6:25 PM Monday, Feb. 1, 1965, in Lafayette Home Hospital, where he had been a patient since Jan. 13, following 15 months of ill-health. Born at Delphi, he married Eva M. Hicks in 1913, near Monticello; she died in 1963.
Mr. Shockey and his wife came to Lafayette in 1915. A retired street car motorman and bus driver, he had been an operator for the old Lafayette Street Railway and Greater Lafayette Bus Company for 43 years. He was the last surviving charter member of Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by a son, George W. Shockey, Jr. of Lafayette; three daughters, Mrs. Herman Mills of Lafayette, Mrs. Shirley Stout of rural Lafayette, and Mrs. Robert Campbell of Brookston; three foster sons, Jack Massey of rural Lafayette, Richard L. Stone and Donnie Rae Anderson, both of Lafayette; a granddaughter, reared and living in the home, Mrs. Jimmie Bussell; two brothers, Edward and Harry Shockey, both of Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Larimore of Delphi and Mrs. Florence Snowberger of Monticello; 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 3 PM Wednesday [Feb. 3, 1965] at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services at 1 PM Thursday at Hippensteel Chapel, the Beryl E. Spross officiating; burial at IOOF Cemetery, Delphi.
