Irene Shockey
Irene Shockey, 94, of 3075 E. Stanton Road Sheridan, died April 3, 2003, at Heartland Health Care, Ionia.
She was born Sept. 21, 1908, in Weidman, the daughter of Joseph Gachter and Catherine Gross.
She married Charles B. Shockey on Oct. 8, 1936, in LaGrange, Ind.
Mrs. Shockey was a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area. She retired from Wolverine World Wide in 1973 and she and her husband farmed together for many years. In addition she enjoyed gardening and quilt making.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Shockey, in 1964; brother, Augusta Gachter; four sisters, Vera Bierschbach, Julia Boge, Catherine Newell, Naomi Graham; and two half brothers, Charlie Gachter and Amos Gachter.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Gale Wing of Palo; two sons and daughter-in-law, Charles W. Shockey of Sheridan, John and Martha Shockey of Ionia; six grandchildren, Eric, John and Charles Shockey, Nyle and John Wing, Annette Ferris; four great-grandchildren, Cherlyn, Dana and Elizabeth Shockey, Christopher Shockey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Ace Averill of Prudenville, Mae and Tom Denton of Clare; and special nephew, LeRoy Boge of Weidman.
Funeral services were April 5 at Stebbins & Simpson Funeral Home, Sheridan, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan.
