James A Miller *

Tomball – James “” Miller passed away on Tuesday July 27th, 2021, at Tomball Hospital after a sudden downturn in his health over a 2-week period.

Allen was born on June 23, , in Waukegan, to Bess M. Underwood and James H. Miller. Allen was a graduate of Lee High School in Columbus, in 1972 and attended The University of Mississippi and The University of Southern Miss. He made his early home in Mississippi where his son David was born.

He spent over 50 years of his life working in the food and grocery industry beginning in Mississippi and leading him to a rewarding career throughout supermarket chains across Texas, , , and till his return to Tomball, Texas in . Allen worked his way up from bagger to Store Manager as well as being a Leading Procurement Buyer and Merchant. He enjoyed following his father’s footsteps in a rich and rewarding career in the industry he loved.

Allen was an “Avid” Football Fan of his Ole Miss Rebels and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved history and especially the Civil War period and was a trove of knowledge when it came to the battles and sites of that war. He was also a serious Antique Bottle Collector and collected Coke Memorabilia with over 250 items in his collection with some dating back to the 1800’s.

He was a loving and caring father to his son David and cherished his grandson John Derek.

Allen’s greatest achievement in life will be how he is remembered by all who knew him and loved him. Allen lived his life showing kindness and caring to others and was referred to by so many as “The Nicest Man I’ve ever known or met”.

He is survived in life by his Son David Brooks Miller and wife Sara and Grandson John Derek (Hattiesburg MS); his Mother Bess M. Shockey and Stepfather Philip L. Shockey (Hempstead TX); Stepmother Martha Miller (Tupelo, MS); Sister Tina Wiggins and husband Dan (Conroe, TX); Brother Scott Miller (Tomball, TX); loving Nieces and Nephews; Misti Jeter, Crystal Martinez, Michael Miller and Lauren Miller and their families. He was preceded in death by his Father James H. Miller (Tupelo, MS).

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 7th. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm CST with services from 2:00 to 3:00 pm CST at Funeral Home. The funeral home is located at 1400 Main Street, Tomball, Texas 77375. Interment will be at Klein Memorial Park, located at 9714 FM 2920 Tomball, TX 77375.
