Margaret Carey *

Margaret ‘Collene’ Carey, 79, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday evening, June 1, 2025, in Granbury, Texas.
Visitation for Collene will begin at 2 P.M., on Friday, June 27,2025, at the McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan St., in Lockhart, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 P.M., at the funeral Home. A committal service will follow at the Lockhart City Cemetery in Lockhart.
Collene was born on July 27, 1945, in Lockhart, Texas to the late Wilburn and Maggie Burris. On August 27, 1965, she married James Edmund Carey III and together they had three children, Ed, Kelly, and Beth. Collene enjoyed studying her Bible and dearly loved her Savior, Jesus. She was a member of Valley HI First Baptist Church in San Antonio. She was a person of ‘sass, grit, and deep faith.’ Collene made a difference in many lives and was accepting of everyone. Most of all, Collene will be remembered for the devotion she had for her family – particularly for her children and grandchildren.
Collene is survived by her children, James (Ed) and wife Margaret Carey, Kelly and husband Teddy Ott, and Beth and husband Dan Blackburn; her grandchildren, Travis and wife Megan Carey, Marissa Katie Carey, Rebecca Anne Carey, Emily Carey-Kerslake and husband Nick, Andrew and wife Laura Claire Ott, Marybeth and husband Zach Quick, Emma and husband Caleb Shockey, Ellie Farmer, Erin Farmer, Libby Farmer, and Jed Farmer, as well as by 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Collene was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. James Edmund Carey, III.
