Mrs. A. Ruth Shockey
MRS. A. RUTH SHOCKEY, 74, wife of A. D. (Bert) Shockey, 115 S. Potomac St., died at 6:30 a.m. today at the Waynesboro Hospital. She became ill February 9, and was critically ill since last Tuesday when she was admitted to the hospital. Mrs. Shockey was born in Adams County, December 20 1894, daughter of-the late Howard and Mary G. Shorb Miller. The family came to Waynesboro in 1910. She and Mr. Shockey were married in January 1913. For a short time she worked at the Waynesboro Knitting Co. Mrs. Shockey was later employed by Mrs. Fannie Goldberg a Kirson’s Store. In 1925 she and her sister opened the Shockey and Miller Beauty Shop in the Wayne Building. Mrs. Shockey retired in 1950. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. In addition to her husband she is survived by a son, J. Richard Shockey, Waynesboro R. D. 1; a grandson, Dennis Shockey, Warrensburg, Mo.; a step-granddaughter, a step-great-granddaughter, and a sister, Mrs. Benjamin Kissinger, Waynesboro R. D. 4. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Grove Funeral Home in charge of Pastor Glenn L. Stahl. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
