Richard J Brown *

Richard Junior “Smacky” , 76, of Keyser, WV, died Friday, May 3, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
Born on October 2, in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late James W. Brown and Bernice Elizabeth () Norris. He also was preceded in death by his grandparents who reared him, Wilbur and Lucinda Brown and two sisters, Patricia and Ellen.
Mr. Brown was a graduate of Keyser High School and was retired from Penn Ventilator. He also was both a US Army and US Navy veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Nancy Hanks Post # 3518, VFW in Keyser where he formerly served as Junior Vice Commander. He loved hunting and fishing, riding motorcycle sand singing and playing his guitar.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Rose () Brown; his children, Natasha “Sissy” Skidmore and husband Zach of Cumberland, MD, Janet “Sally” Purdy of Keyser, Rose “Ricky” of Keyser, Ada “Sack” Fagg of Covington, VA and Ernest “Bubby” Hott of Winchester, VA; three brothers, Moses Norris, Jr., Bobby Johnson and David Lee Johnson; five sisters, Betty and Linda Norris, both of Keyser, Geneva Davis and Joyce Norris, both of Hagerstown, MD and Judith Grantham of Cincinnati, OH; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Leatherman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the service by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Keyser Area Post # 41 American Legion Honor Guard.
