Sharon Sue Meyer
Sharon Sue Meyer, 68, Postville, Iowa, died Thursday, January 29, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa, following a brief illness. Sharon was born on July 8, 1940, Alburnett, Iowa, to George Henry and Mary Lillian (Lillis) Gessner. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School, Oelwein, Iowa.
Sharon was united in marriage to Gerald “Pete” Meyer on March 3, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, Iowa. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, Iowa, in the Medical Records Department, Marianna LP Gas & Petroleum Corp. in Postville, Iowa, for twenty years and Fauser Energy in Postville, Iowa, for twenty years until her retirement in 2001.
Sharon was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa, for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. Sharon loved life and spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald “Pete” Meyer, Postville; two sisters, Betty (Dale) Resor, Toledo, Karen (Dean) Hanson, Atwater, MN; one sister-in-law, Janie Gessner, Elk Grove, CA and several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul Gessner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009, at 10:30 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, Iowa. The Very Rev. Richard Gaul will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
