Charles Shockey Porterfield
Charles Shockey Porterfield, 72, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 5, 2008, at City Hospital.
Born May 29, 1936 in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late J. Milton Porterfield, Jr., and Dorothy Shockey Porterfield.
He was a graduate of Hedgesville High School, Class of 1954, attended WVU and graduated from Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, DC, with an electronics engineering degree.
He was a well known orchardist in the area for many years and currently employed by Knouse Foods in Orrtanna, PA, as the plant maintenance supervisor.
He was very active in the community, including Hedgesville High School, and a member of the Martinsburg Loyal Order of Moose.
Mr. Porterfield was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nora Sowers Porterfield; two sons, Charles Douglas Porterfield, of Martinsburg and Marc William Porterfield, of Virginia Beach,VA; two daughters, Rebecca Joann Rose and Kelly Marie Coe and husband, C.W., all of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren, Jenna, Logan, Cassi, Macey and Halle Rose; Maria, Hunter and Woody Coe; two brothers, David W., Porterfield, of Ocala, FL, and John M. Porterfield, III, of Inwood, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at St. Leo Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Shoda, celebrant. Interment prayers will be said at Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Brown Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m,. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday where a vigil service will be held.
