Albert Donhoff *
86, passed into God’s open arms on July 21, 2016 following an illness.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 31, 1930 and a graduate of Male High School, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his service, Al spent more than thirty years as a pressman at the Courier-Journal. Upon retirement from the Courier, he returned to his studies where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees while attending the University of Louisville and Spalding University. Big Al completed his life’s work as a junior high school English and Social Studies teacher at St. Pius X parish school in the Archdiocese of Louisville.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lula Donhoff, and his brothers, Dr. Robert Bruce and Donald Donhoff.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Martha Ann; his children, Alan (Leslie), Rob (Mitzy), Brian (Stephanie), and Maria Shockey (Steve); his grandchildren, Sarah, Morgan, Bob, Reed (Sarah), Schyler, Sloane, Neal (Brittany), Christopher, Olivia, Matthew, Tyler (Holly), Evin, and Eric; and great grandchildren Miles and Cash.
His funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Church of the Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Rd. with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
