Donald L. Benner Sr. *
MARION — Donald Lewis Benner Sr., 50, of 440 E. Church St., died 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at his residence.
Born June 12, 1947, in Marion, he was the son of Charles Lewis and Ruth (Weston) Benner.
On June 7, 1980, in Marion, he married D. Kim Sayre.
Mr. Brenner served in the U.S. Navy for 13 years and was stationed in Pensacola, Fla., serving the USS Nimitz and the USS Lexington. He worked as a production art director with Starter Sportswear in Florida before going to E.T. Graphics in Knoxville, Tenn., where he worked as a general manager for a year. A resident of Marion most of his life, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7201.
Mr. Benner was of the Baptist faith and was a graduate of Mansfield Business College in Marion with a dual degree.
In addition to his wife of 17 years, he is survived by his mother; three sons, Donald (Michelle) Lewis Benner Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., Dean Whalen Jr. of Marion and Jason Holsinger of Marion; two daughters, Catrina Holsinger of Marion and Mrs. Martin (Shay) Whalen Patterson of Marion; one brother, Gary (Judy) Benner of Marion; and one sister, Cathy Klemm of Marion; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and two grandchildren, Jeremy Ray Holsinger and Nicholas Paul Benner.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Buckner officiating.
Burial is in Green Camp Cemetery with military rites by the Marion County Veterans Council and Chaplain Larry Rosen.
