Jay L. Shockey
Jay L. Shockey, 77, Gas City, died at 6:35 a.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2016, in Marion General Hospital. He was born in Kokomo to the late Raymond and Sylvia (Kirkman) Shockey.
Jay was a 1957 graduate of Fairmount High School. He was a production worker for 35 years at DANA until his retirement in 2001.
Jay was an avid NASCAR and IU basketball fan. He was a snowbird and wintered in Texas for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Carving Club in Alamo, Texas, as well as in Converse. Jay enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and woodworking, as well as going out to eat and socializing with his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Kevin (Lisa) Shockey, Marion; daughter, Melissa (Rick) Slaven, Anderson; grandchildren, Justin (Stacey) Shockey, Bryce Shockey, Brooke (Logan) Fernandes, and Branden Jefferies; great-grandchildren, Kal-el Fernandes, Harley Fernandes, Emalie Jefferies, Karter Shockey; companion, Carol Myers; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Shockey; sister, Maxine Haines; and another younger sister.
A memorial visitation is from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City. Services for Jay will begin at 6 p.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.
