Janet S. Gulliver *
Janet S. Gulliver, 78, Friedens, went to be with the Lord Feb. 15, 2020 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born July 12, 1941 in Somerset, daughter of Vernon and Edna (Baker) Shockey. Preceded in death by parents, husband H. Mark, brothers Roy, Jay, and Dale Shockey, and sisters Dorothy Smucker, Ruth Platt, and Betty Shockey. Survived by her son Jim E. Gulliver, Melbourne, FL, granddaughter Emily, sister Jean Walker, sisters-in-law Ada Shockey and Paulette Jenkins, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Somerset High School. She worked 33 years for the federal government, retiring in 2003 and moving back to Somerset County. Member of the Somerset Alliance Church where she served as a Deaconess and with W.D.S. Member and Past President of the former Stoystown Lioness Club and member of the Friedens Quilting Group. She was the recipient of the prestigious Steel Magnolia Award for women. She also volunteered at the Somerset Food Pantry, and she was the glue that held her family together. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 12 Noon until service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Somerset Alliance Church. Rev. Scott Ream officiating. Interment Union Cemetery, New Centerville.
