Ann Slaughter Dendy *
Ann Slaughter Dendy, 92, of Pell City, AL, died June 4, 2021. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pell City. Born in Phoenix City, AL, to John R. and Annie Lou Slaughter, she grew up in Birmingham, graduating from Ramsay High School. Her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama prepared her for a career as an administrative secretary, working in that capacity at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Brookwood Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Buddy Mann, and her grandson, Christopher Mann, her parents and a brother. She is survived by: husband James D. Dendy; sons Thomas M. Mann (Deborah), Clinton, MS, and James R. Mann (Susan), Pell City, AL; daughters Susan McClanahan (William H., MD), Pell City, AL, Cindy Alarid, Arlington, TX, and Judy Shockey, Arab, AL; grandchildren Patrick McClanahan (Stacy), Michael McClanahan (Tandi), Samuel Alarid (Ginie), Adam Wright, Ben Wright, Leigh Hammer, James Mann and Nathanial Mann (Lea); sister Carol White, Natchitoches, LA; six great-grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews. She is also survived by step-grandchildren Dawn Jennings (David), Eric Garner and Cherish Dendy. The family would like to thank Comfort Care Hospice and The Village at Cook Springs for their loving care of our mother. The family will see visitors from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, at Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel, Pell City, AL, with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be friends and grandsons with interment at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, AL. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the Lottie Moon Foreign Mission or First Baptist Church Mission Fund, both at 2309 Second Avenue, North, Pell City, AL 35125.
