Richard L Shockey *
Richard Lee Shockey, age 48, of Tulsa Oklahoma escaped from the prison planet December 15, 2020. He leaves behind a cornucopia of band, song, movie, and book lists for all to enhance their existence.
Richard is survived by his awfully wedded wife (wedding vow) of 16 years, Christine. He also is survived by his daughter Siona; Son Justin Musick (Megan); parents Duane and Pam Shockey; Sisters, Sheila (Dave) Briggs, Angela (Gary) Belshe; in-laws Larry and Connie Tatro; Michael Weingartner, John (Trina) Weingartner, Amy (Jim Ed) Fincher, and Jesse (Kym) Tatro. Crumb snatchers who call him Papa, Jillian and Jacqueline, and those who call him Whichard, Lydia and Lilly, plus a plethora of nieces and nephews: Ashley, Amber, Gracie, Erika, Cameron, Braden, Sydnatious P, Chloe, Trey, Eryn, Drake, Kaylani, Jace, Malialani, Lydia, Solomon, Izzy, Emberlee and Grayson.
When Covid hit it was a toss-up if Richard was more annoyed with missing out on being trivia champ at Starlight for the free beer or having to hold court with only one or two people in the garage throwing bones. Richard loved fall and spring, and tolerated summer because he could have people over for a barbecue, swimming, playing DJ, showing off the new band he found, and always being the last man standing.
He hated winter, injustice, greed, racism, fascists, littering, and credit cards.
Richard firmly believed the free library was one of America’s greatest achievements, you should always pay cash for cars, everyone should play tennis, hike, and ride a bike. He thought Chuck Yeager was the ultimate badass, a young Clint Eastwood would make the best gunslinger, Viggo Mortensen should play Duncan Idaho, and the new Dune release should be a federal holiday.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the family and friends who have supported Richard’s family during the aftermath of the tsunami that is his death. He was larger and louder than life, and the depths of his loss will be felt across space and time.
Oklahoma doesn’t have a place to feed Richard to the sharks, so services for him will be held on December 28th at 1 PM. They will be provided by Mark Griffith Memorial funeral Homes, Inc. at the Westwood chapel; 4424 South 33rd West Ave., Tulsa OK 74107. Masks are required. His remains will be cremated, and he will be placed in the shoebox of his wife’s choice, per his request.
For those of you who are unable to attend the service, a special remembrance celebration is being planned for Wichita when we can all safely gather in large groups once again.
Memorial donations for the Siona’s trust and care TBA, Or in his honor you can utilize your public library. He would want it that way.
