Homer C Currence *

Homer Cleophus , 91. of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday (June 3. ) at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Dec. 21, , in Elkins, a son of the late Albert Garfield and Nettie M. Currence. He is sur­vived by his wife Ollie Currence.

Mr. Currence was a graduate of and Elkins College with a bachelor of arts degree in industrial arts.
He had taught industrial arts at Mount Vernon High School in Fairfax, Va. He was a member of the Colfax: United Methodist Church and a for­mer member of the Gateway United Methodist Church in Fairmont.

He was a lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army. He retired from the United States Army Corps of Engineering. During his military career, he had served in both of the theatres in World War II, as well as the Berlin Air Lift, the Amtaver Bomb in the South Pacific and the Korean War.
Homer was a 32nd’ degree Scottish Rite and was a member of the Fairmont Lodge No. 157 A.F. & A.M. He was a devoted participant with the Boy Scouts with over 40 years of service. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and the Wood Badge Award. He had attended the Philmont Scout Ranch. He taught nature, knots and lash­ings throughout the years at Camp Mountaineer.

He enjoyed 62 years of mar­riage with his previous wife Annabel Fimple Currence. He had found his recent years of enjoyment with his current wife of three years, Ollie
Currence. He was also a mem­ber of the Marion County C.E.O.Club.

He is survived by his wife Ollie Mowrey Taylor Currence; sons Alan Homer and his wife Jan Currence of Hurricane and Fayne Russell and his wife Karen Currence of Manassas, Va.; grandchil­dren Michael Fayne Currence, Brian Todd Currence, Ginger Ann Currence, Rebecca Elyse Currence; stepchildren Guy and his wife Charlotte Taylor of Indio, Calif., and Rebecca Taylor and her husband Denny of Colfax; step grand­children Taylor, Aaron Taylor, Sarah Martin, Jonathan Martin, Jessica Martin; and a step-great-grandchild Samuel Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his previous wife Annabel L. Fimple Currence; brothers Walter Currence. Richard Currence and Dale Currence; and sister- Vergie Teter.

Friends and family may call the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont today from 6-9 p.m., Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. and Monday 10-11 a.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will fol­low at the National Cemetery. Pruntytown, with military funeral honors being held at graveside by the Marion County Military Veterans Council.
