David Williams *
MECHANICSBURG – David “Dave” Williams, 90, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in Springfield Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born June 25, 1932, in Mt. Orab, Ohio, the son of the late Rev. Leonard (Gladys) Williams. He graduated from Hardford High School in 1950. He married the love of his life, Janet Shockey, on June 19, 1955, in Catawba. He then served his country in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in education, he further continued his education with a master’s degree from Ball State. He began his career as a teacher, guidance counselor and coach. He then became the chief of service for people with disabilities for the State of Ohio, where he retired after 30-plus years of service.
Dave was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church. He was a longtime supporter of the Special Olympics. He was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds; he loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and hated TTUN (Xichigan & West Liberty-Salem). He absolutely adored all Mechanicsburg sports. He spent his free time attending all Mechanicsburg sporting events.
Most of all he loved spending time with his family and was very proud of his grandchild & great-grandchildren. He was a genuinely happy and loving person and will be missed by all.
Dave is survived by his loving wife; children, Cathy (Hank Thompson) Weidner of Fostoria, Michael (Esperanza) Williams of Circleville and Gary (Lisa) Williams of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Jamie, Casey, Lyndsay, Anna, Alex, Auston and Cameron; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jakob, and Jarred Faber, Riley and Jezelle Mitsch, Millie, Lucy, Tennley and Declan Weidner, and Lucca and Tyson Williams.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Billy Williams; grandson Ryan Weidner; and siblings Laura, Edward, Wilma, Mary Jo and Donald.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Tumblin, Rev. Dr. Thomas Tumblin and Rev. Mimi Ault officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial of cremated remains will be held at the family’s convenience, in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
