Leonard Jay Shockey
Our dear sweet brother passed away in Vancouver at the age of 60. Len was born in Flin Flon, MB and grew up in Allan, SK. Len worked at several jobs throughout his life including CN as a Station Operator and later became a graphic designer after obtaining his designation with marks that put him at the top of his class. He was extremely creative and was a very talented artist. He had a passion for animals and embraced nature in all its glory which gave him such comfort. Around the age of 25, life became challenging for Len as he struggled to overcome the realities of living with a mental illness. While his life was not always easy, you could always see in his bright blue eyes a glimmer of hope and the traits of the brother we knew and loved. It was once said…”What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, more unashamed conversations about illnesses that affect not only individuals, but their families as well.” He fought this illness for many years, and now he is at peace. We loved him more than he ever understood. Rest well Len…until we meet again.
Len was survived by his brothers Ralph Shockey and Russell Shockey and sisters Jayne (Larry) Mosselman and their daughters Jodie and Sara Mosselman and Lori Shockey and her children Johnathan and Jaylyn Bennett. He was predeceased by our parents Jay and Roseanne Shockey.
We will be holding a celebration of life on May 12, 2023 in Saskatoon. Leonard will be laid to rest by our parents in Vanscoy, SK. If you are interested in joining us, please contact me directly for more information.
