Elaine May Burton, age 58, Cabins, WV, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Keyser Healthcare Center in Keyser, WV. She was born on March 5, 1965 in Petersburg, WV, the daughter of the late Ernest “Buck” and Tressie Virginia (Sherman) Heavner. Elaine’s fiancé, Steve Shreve, survives in Cabins.
Ms. Burton attended Petersburg High School and was a Baptist by faith. She had previously worked for Pilgrim’s Pride in Moorefield, WV, Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center, and at Allegheny Wood Products in Petersburg. Elaine loved spending time with her family, cooking, camping and listening to music. She also enjoyed gardening and decorating her home for every holiday. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her fiancé, Elaine is survived by: 2 daughters, Victoria Lynn Mongold (Jordan) of Upper Tract, WV; Nissa Marie Vance (Shawn) of Franklin, WV; a son, Craig Shockey of Virginia; 2 sisters, Goldie Marie Helmick (James) of Maysville, WV; Regina Heavner (Peep Alt) of Petersburg, WV; 5 brothers, John, Ernest Jr. (Angie), Junior, Emory, and Jarrett Heavner; 5 Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ms. Burton’s family will receive friends on Monday, May 29, 2023, 4-6 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM with Pastor Rita Beeman officiating. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
