Carl A Cable

Carl A. , 88, of Cerro Gordo, passed away peacefully at his home on October 19, surrounded by his family.
Memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren. Carl will be laid to rest at Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials in Carl’s honor be made to Cerro Gordo Fire Protection District Volunteers.
Carl was born July 6, in Decatur, the son of Amos and Myrtle (Blickenstaff) Cable. He married Wilma Meyerholz on June 13, in Cerro Gordo. Carl proudly served our country in the US Army where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He managed Cerro Gordo Lumber Company for several years. Later, he worked as a lead operator in maintenance at Firestone for 27 years until his retirement. Carl enjoyed camping, fly fishing and bowled in a bowling league. He was a history buff and liked playing golf, he even got a hole in 1 in Decatur. Carl was also a , and he built the family home in Cerro Gordo. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Carl and Wilma loved travel and spent 15 years as snowbirds. He was a member of the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren and a member of the Lions Club for 50 years.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Wilma; daughters: Jeanie Ashenfelter Sager (Paul) of Astoria, IL; Rhonda Ashenfelter Higgs (Daniel) of Gallatin, TN; daughter-in-, Connie Ashenfelter of Cerro Gordo; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Dennis Cable and Bryce Ashenfelter; brother, Cable; and sisters: Betty and Marjorie .
