Edwin P Hughes

Edwin was the son of John and Anna MODJESKI. He married Charlotte Pauline on 24 November in Pentwater, Oceana County, . He was a resident of the Manistee County Medical Facility in Manistee at the time of his death.

They were the parents of five (5) daughters:

Ed served in the United States Army during World War II from December 17, until his discharge on November 27, .

He was employed with Michigan Chemical Company for many for many years until the plant closed, and then was employed with Century Boat Company as Director of Manufacturing until his retirement.

Ed was active and involved in many local organizations throughout his life. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #250 where he was a past Exhaulted Ruler, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #43, a life member of the Stephen T. Duchon Catholic War Veterans Post #1847, a life member of the V.F.W. Walsh Post #4499 where he was a Past Commander as well as a member of the Ritual Squad Drill Team, a life member of the Saint Joseph Civic Club, charter member of the Manistee Muzzleloading Club, and an active member of the Manistee Historical Museum Board up until his death. He was a communicant of Guardian Angels Catholic Church of Manistee, where he has been a long-time usher and also was active and a big supporter of Manistee Catholic Central Schools since the school’s inception. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, known for his famous annual fish fry and his love for a good poker game.

Ed was survived by five daughters & four sons-in-: Sharon & Tom BUDNIK, Nadine LATSCH, Linda & Jerry DUCHON, Laura & James HENDERSON and Terese & Robert CHEPPO, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one brother & sister-in-law, Albin & Bonnie HUGHES. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents and his wife, by two great-grandchildren, Michaela & BUDNIK, by two brothers, Tony and Lloyd HUGHES and four sisters, Irene KAMALOSKI, Lavonne DUGAS, Evelyn HAASE and Lillian JACOBS.

Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend John celebrant. Burial followed in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee, where Graveside Military Services were conducted by the members of the V.F.W. Walsh Post #4499 Ritual Squad.

Memorials were suggested in Ed’s name for Manistee Catholic Central Schools, Guardian Angel Catholic Church and the Manistee County Medical Care Facility Foundation.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee was in charge of funeral arrangements.
