Dolores Thomas *
Dolores S. Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024. She is survived by her sons Jim (Jeanne) and Bill (Kathy); grandchildren Kristin (Kevin), Michelle, Mark, Justin, and Lauren (Mert); and great-grandchildren Luke and Nicholas.
Born in Washington, D.C. on January 25, 1930, she spent her childhood in Upper Darby, Overbrook, Wayne, and Washington, D.C. She graduated from Overbrook High School in 1947 and in 1951 from Beaver (Arcadia) College with a B.S. degree in Medical Technology. After graduating, she worked as a lab technician at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Dolores met her husband, Jay, on a blind date on January 21, 1950 and they were married October 24, 1953 at the historic Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Park. They settled in Merchantville, then moved to Cherry Hill and later to Rose Valley.
Dolores loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her family. She enjoyed tennis, the Rose Valley Folk, reading, going to their home in Beach Haven, NJ, and getting together with friends. She loved to entertain friends and family, opening her house to church members, fellow Providence Garden Club members, and neighbors. She was an active member, Elder, and Deacon at Wallingford Presbyterian Church, and held a deep faith that she continued to cultivate throughout her adult life. She enjoyed spiritual retreats, Bible studies, Wednesday breakfasts, and “brown bag lunches” at Wallingford Pres. She was also a long-time member of the Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club. Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Jay (d. 2008) and their son, Bob (d. 1980).
Service on Monday, June 10, 2024 – Wallingford Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Brookhaven Rd., Wallingford, PA 19086, Visitation: 10 AM; Service: 11 AM.
Burial: 12:30 PM Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, PA. Luncheon following burial
