Russel E Shockey *
Russell Edward Shockey, 69, died Monday, April 14, 2025 at his home in Derby, Kansas surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 15, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Robert Gibson and Alice Jean Richarson Shockey. Russell was raised Lonaconing, Maryland where he graduated from Valley High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 10, 1974 and retired June 30, 1994.
Russell married Maria Lourdes Morales on December 23, 1986 in El Paso, Texas. He was discharged for retirement on June 30, 1994 from Ft. Bliss, Texas. After being discharged, Russell worked as a contractor at the US border for Homeland Security. The family lived in El Paso, Texas until moving to Wichita in 2008. For a few years, he had been a school bus driver in Wichita.
Russell and Maria were members of the Glorious Bible Church in Wichita. Through the years he had been a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Russell was an avid football & baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife Maria of the home; his children Russell Shockey and wife Pam of Atlanta, Ga., Amanda Shockey, Jason Shockey both of Atlanta, Bobby Shockey of Derby, Raul Shockey and wife Vilma of El Paso, Tx., Kristie Shockey and husband Marco Espinoza of Derby, Gary Shockey and wife Kara of Derby; 24 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Russell is also survived by his brothers Bobby Shockey and wife Faye, Terry Shockey, Randy Shockey and wife Tammy, John Shockey and wife Debbie all of Lonaconing, Maryland; and sister Jean Lynn Clarke and husband Troy of Spring Lake, MI.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Roberta Shockey and brother Michael Shockey.
Funeral services will full military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 18, 2025 at Affordable Cremations Plus in Wichita, Ks.
