Shockey Roots

Fayetteville – Alfonso Shawkey, 59, died Saturday at his home in Fayetteville, Route 1, after a long illness. Born Feb. 25, 1905, at Stanaford, he was a son of the late E. and Eva Settle Shawkey. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lula Shawkey; two sons, Ike and Johnny, both at home; three daughters, Opal, at home, Mrs. Eva Jane Drake of Summerlee and Wanda V. Shawkey of Route 2, Fayetteville; two brothers, Lacy L. of Oak Hill and C. E. of Barnagett, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Terry of Rock Lick; and a grandchild. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dodd-Payne Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville with the Rev. Ted Fox in charge. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home.
