Lewis Franklin Shockey

Beckwith – Franklin Shockey, 43, of Beckwith was killed in a slate fall Wednesday night at the Morris Creek Mine No. 4 of the Central Appalachian Coal Co. near Montgomery. Born Nov. 25, 1926, at Fayetteville, he was a son of Walter Shockey and the late Audrey McClung Shockey. Shockey was a World War II veteran and a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local 9619. Other survivors include his wife, Nina Mae Shockey; four sons, Lewis Franklin Jr. of Fayetteville and Raymond Walter, Lewis and Mont Allen, all at home; three daughters, Lois Ann, Sally Glendon and Ginger Lea, all at home; a brother, Paul Shockey of Charleston; and four sisters, Mrs. Mildred of Oak , Mrs. Sarah Martin of Warner Robins, Ga., Mrs. of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. June Blackwelder of Port Wentworth, Ga. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Dodd- Funeral Home Cahpel at Fayetteville with Rev. C. S. Donnelly in charge. Burial will be in the Huse Memorial Park at Fayetteville. Friends call after 5 p.m. today.
