Betty L Shockey *
Betty L. Shockey, age 94 of Fairborn passed away April 28, 2024 at Soin Medical Center. She was born December 30, 1929 in Ravenswood, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Otmer and Mayme (Rector) Salser. Betty enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the head cashier for Fairborn City Schools for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Harold Shockey; nine brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, Robert Vanhoose. Betty leaves her loving husband of 77 years, John; daughter, Bonnie (Art) Taylor; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Tim) Wendling, Lisa Taylor-Adams, Amy Taylor-Vanhoose; nine great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Shockey (David Ellis), Brittney Shockey, Adeline Mattachione, Joshua (Kayla) Wendling, Kayle Wendling, Dylan Adams, Noah Adams, Michael (Korrine) Pace, Samantha Vanhoose; nine great great-grandchildren, Anna, Cora, Luke, Layne, Cohen, Novalee, Morgan, Denver, Harper; sister, Ruth Thompson; daughter-in-law, Cindy Shockey; as well as extended family and friends. A funeral will held on Friday May 3, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Randy Warner officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Betty.
