Charles R Donart *

Charles Roy “C.R.” Donart, Jr., 91, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, August 4, , at the Olathe Health Hospice House.

Family will meet with friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., same , at Princeton Cemetery with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

C.R. was born February 5, 1927, in Fall River, , the son of Charles Sr. and Marie (Blinn) Donart.

He was a lifelong Franklin County resident living in Princeton, Kansas, until moving in to Ottawa.

He graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1945.

C.R. served his country in the United States Army from March 1946 to June attaining the rank of Private 1st Class.

C.R. was united in marriage to Barbara Nutt October 18, 1977, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, John Donart and wife Lisa of Shawnee, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Charles Donart, Sr.; an infant brother (1934); and three sisters, Lyla “Jeanne” Greenwood (1989), Lucille Lenore (), and Arliss Marie Holdeman ().

C.R. was employed for 30 years as an oiler repairman and operating engineer for Cities Service Company, now known as Southern Star in Ottawa. He also painted houses and did lawn care.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa; Ottawa Lodge No. 18, A.F. & A.M.; and Fuller Post 48, American Legion of Garnett.

He delivered Meals on Wheels and drove transportation for the Senior Center in Ottawa for several years.

C.R. enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, yard work, feeding the birds, and Pheasant hunting with his Brittany Spaniel in the 1970s through 1990s. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
