David M Shockey *
David Michael Shockey, age 74, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Morningside of Gastonia. David was born in Ravenswood, West Virginia on January 17, 1949, and is the son of the late Herschel Ray and Ernestine Byrd Shockey.
David worked as a delivery driver for over 50 years. He was a kind man with a gentle spirit that loved his Lord and Savior. David was a faithful member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby, NC for many years, where he served as an usher. He loved basketball and traveling. One of his favorite pastimes was watching Paw Patrol with his great granddaughter. David will be remembered as a loving and dedicated father.
David is survived by his children, Debra (Scott) Marciano, Michael Shockey, Steven (Crystal) Shockey, Sue Ann (Doug) Perkins, Timothy Gilliland and Marian Price; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Ola Megruta Shockey and son, Mark Gilliland.
A visitation will be at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory from 9:30 – 10:30 AM Saturday, August 12, 2023. A graveside service will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 AM in the cemetery of Elizabeth Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Comer offering words of encouragement for those in attendance.
