Eli H. “Nick” Shockey Sr.
Eli H. “Nick” Shockey Sr., 84, Stoystown, died Sept. 19, 1979, in Somerset Community Hospital. He was born March 2, 1895, in Stoystown, and was a son of Christian H. and Elizabeth (Weimer) Shockey. Preceded in death by parents and two sisters: Mary Cross and Ada Lohr. Survived by widow, the former Florence Custer, whom he married June 25, 1919; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Janet) Einstein, Woodstock, Va.; son, Eli H. Jr., Union Springs, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren. He was retired owner and operator of Shockey’s Clover Farm store and former postmaster in Stoystown. He was an army veteran of WW I and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown Lodge IOOF 372, Somerset Lodge F and AM 358, Harrisburg Consistory, Somerset Chapter No. 13 AARP, Stoystown Senior Citizens, Quemahoning Rod and Gun Club and Laurel Ridge Sportsmen. He was a charter member of the Robert P. Hite American Legion, Stoystown, and the Stoystown Lions Club. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Remains will be removed to the Grace Lutheran Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m., Saturday, the Rev. Ronald C. Long officiating. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown. If friends desire, instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
