Enoch J Staats *
Enoch J. Staats, 89 of Ripley passed away at his home on June 15, 2024 following a long illness.
He was born August 9, 1934 in Mason County, son of the late Delbert and Clara Lilly Staats. He was a graduate of Pt. Pleasant High School and attended West Virginia Tech, University of Wyoming, University of Texas and University of Maryland. He served his country in the United States Marines and also in the US Army where he retired as a Master Sargent. He taught Building Construction at the Roane-Jackson Technical Center. Enoch was very active in his community and served as a Magistrate and was a member of the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Ripley I.O.O.F. Lodge and a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He attended the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Helen Shockey Staats; his children, E. Alan and his wife Kim of Ripley, Donald Staats and his wife Bethany of Cottageville, Leigh Burr and her husband Shayne of Spencer and Mary Alice Hume (Mike) of Texas; step-children Matt Taylor and his wife Gina of Morgan and Mark Taylor and his wife Amy of Ravenswood. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and two special children, Terry and Donna Scaggs.
His wishes for cremation is being honored and a memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Terry Scaggs officiating. Friends may call on the family from 6:00 pm until the time of service. Just prior to the service, Veterans Rites will be performed by the Jackson County Honor Guard.
