Ernest D Horner
Ernest D. Horner, 84, of 410 Mississippi St., Boswell, died July 25, 1994, at Somerset Hospital. Born July 29, 1909, in Jenner Township. Son of Joseph F. and Bertha A. (Friedline) Horner. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Owen T. “Red” and Kenneth C. Survived by his wife, the former Mary Evelyn Hunter; son, Dr. David E., married to Jo Ann Lewis, Ambler, and two granddaughters, Beth Anne and Amy Lee. Brother of Ethel Hill, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Frank E., Clark, N.J.; Martha Thornton, Mineral Point; Miriam Shomo, Johnstown, and Ada Westerman, Bricktown, N.J. Active member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell. Graduate of Boswell High School and a 1930 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, where he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for Wrestling in 1988. Initiated the first wrestling program at Boswell High School, a program later continued by his brother, “Red.” Charter member and past president of the Boswell Lions Club. Chairman of the Boswell Water Authority for many years. Taught school for several years and was the retired co-owner/operator, along with his wife, of the former Horner’s General Store, Boswell. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Rev. Susanne Palmquist officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorials to St. Andrew’s Church or Laurel View Village, Davidsville, would be appreciated. Lions will pay final respects at 8 p.m. Thursday.
