Esther M. Shockey *
GEARHARTVILLE – Esther Mae Shockey, 89, a resident of Windy Hill Village and formerly of Gearhartville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born Aug. 18, 1931 in Gearhartville, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Jones, Jr. and Goldia (Singer) Jones.
Esther was a 1950 graduate of the Philipsburg High School and was an excellent cook and baker, enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.
She was of the Episcopal Faith, having been a member of the former St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Gearhartville, until its closing. On Oct. 24, 1958 in Winchester, Va., she married Donald K. Shockey, who preceded her in death on April 19, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a brother Norman Jones.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean (Tina) Zarzyczny of Williamsport; a sister, Dorothy Jones of Altoona; and four grandchildren, Nicole, Hayden, Madison and Austin.
Friends will be received at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, on Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon. All visitors will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
Due to current restrictions, the funeral will be private at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Fr. Robert McKay IV officiating.
Esther will be laid to rest at Centre United Methodist Cemetery, Osceola Mills RD.
