Fanchion M. Stair
A FORT WAYNE MAN was arrested by state police officers Wednesday evening after his auto reportedly swerved out of control and struck another vehicle, killing a Iogansport woman and injuring her two daughters, state police said.
Arrested was Harold F. Wegner, 21, charged with causing the death of another while driving under the influence of Intoxicating liquor, a Redkey state police-spokesmen reported.
Fanchion M. Stair, 49, was killed instantly after the car in which she was driving was pushed off 1-69 near Gaston. Investigators said the vehicle flipped over several times throwing all three persons out of the car. Patricia M. Stair, 24, Peru, sustained a broken neck and multiple lacerations to the head and neck. She is reportedly in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital. Another passenger in the auto, Melissa Stair, 15, was treated and released from Ball Hospital in Muncie for minor injuries.
Investigators said the Wegner auto was northbound on 1-69 traveling at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass, striking the Stair auto in the rear, forcing it off the highway.
Wegner is currently being held in the Delaware County jail.
