James I Shockey *
James “Jim” Ira Shockey, Sr., 83, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, passed from this life Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jim was born on Tuesday, September 25, 1941, in Mabie, a son of the late Howard and Elsie Shockey. He was married to the former Mary Frances Shifflet who preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are two children, Terry Godfrey and husband Pat of Sugar Grove, Eddie Shockey of Camden, NC, grandchildren, Josh, Logan, Austin, one great-grandchild on the way, Barkley, one sister, Wilma Shockey of Thomas, one brother, Bob Shockey and wife Carolyn of Dailey, two nieces, Melissa and Nichole Shockey.
Preceding Jim in death besides his parents and wife was one brother, Tom Shockey, and one nephew, Brian Shockey.
Jim attended the schools of Randolph County. He had been employed at several local water departments including Valley Water, Huttonsville Correctional Center, and Snowshoe Resort. He enjoyed camping, hunting and building muzzle loaders. Jim was Methodist by faith.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Friday, February 14, 2025, from 11 am until Noon, the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens on Country Club Road.
