Joanne H Bloom *
JOANNE “JO” HUNTER (SHOCKEY) BLOOM, age 95, died in her home in Blue Ridge Summit, PA on Saturday, February 4, 2017.
Jo was born in Zullinger, PA on July 19, 1921, to the late Ralph I. Shockey, Sr. and Ruth Rieman (Hunter) Shockey.
She graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1939. She married John David Bloom on November 23, 1949 in Highfield, Maryland. He died on October 15, 1968.
Jo loved to read, quilt, and hook rugs. She also loved many animal companions throughout her years.
Jo is survived by one son, Terry L. Shockey of Illinois, and three daughters, Elizabeth I. (Bloom) Johnson and her husband Hal Johnson of Blue Ridge Summit, Ellen R. Bloom of Vermont, and Lynn A. (Bloom) Martin and her husband Duke Martin of Carroll Valley, PA; grandchildren, Brenda Shockey, Bridget Laushot, and Karen Shockey of Illinois, Emily Dwyer of Vermont, Eric Dwyer of New York, and Jennifer Huff of Blue Ridge Summit; great grandchildren, Sydney, Zoe, Lance, Luke and Ayla. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Susan (DeWees) Reisinger who helped care for Jo for many, many years.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Riemen (Shockey) DeWees, and one brother Ralph I. Shockey, Jr.
There will be a gathering in her memory this coming summer.
