Joe R. Leakey
NEW CASTLE – Joe R. Leakey, 88, 920 Indiana Ave., well known former county official, and active for many years in the Christian church, died at the Henry County hospital, following a serious illness of one week. A lifelong resident of Henry county, Mr. Leakey was born July 9, 1858, in Dudley township, the second child of Ephriam and Catherine Stambaugh Leakey, who were the parents of nine children, only two of whom are living now. Mr. Leakey served two terms as county treasurer and two terms as county auditor. He also served the county several years as deputy treasurer. Throughout his lifetime he maintained a keen interest in the affairs of the Republican party.
