John L Shockey *
John Leroy Shockey age 82 of Ionia passed away December 15, 2021. He was born May 2, 1939 in Bushnell Twp. the son of Charles B. and Irene (Gatchter) Shockey. John married Martha VanSiclen September 3, 1960 in Lake Odessa.
John worked as a mechanic for Lower Brothers Garage in Ionia for 8 years, then went to work for General Motors working in skilled trades as an electrician for 30 years. He attended Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with his wife Martha. John loved helping anyone who needed it. He adored his grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years Martha Shockey of Ionia. Sons; Eric Lee Shockey of Ionia, John Justin (Venise) Shockey of Ionia and Charles Bruce Shockey of Ionia. Grandchildren; Cherlyn (Jason) Schuler, Dana Shockey and Joshua Sewell, Elisabeth (Josh) Elliott, Megan (Abhinav) Maheshwari, Cassandra (Scott) Wallace, Christopher Shockey and fiancé Chloe Whalon, Kuhanchoy Brady. Great grandchildren; Julian Sewell and Oliver Wallace. Sister Glenda (Gail) Wing of Palo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles.
Funeral Services for John will be at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church Wednesday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Pahlman officiating. Interment Balcom Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia Tuesday 4-6 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
