Larry Brobst *
Larry K. ‘Dingie” Brobst, 80, of Freeport, passed away Wednesday, August, 13, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born on December 12, 1933 in Freeport, the son of Lawrence and Twyla (Keister) Brobst. Larry married Patricia M. Whaley on September 14, 1958 in Stockton, Illinois. Larry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Larry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, step-grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed. Larry worked for many years at a service station as an auto mechanic before retiring on July 7, 2000. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and Freeport Am Vets. Larry was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed stock car racing and followed both Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He especially enjoyed following his sons, step-grandchildren’s, and grandchildren’s school, church, and sporting activities.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Brobst of Freeport; two sons, John (Lori) Brobst and Dave (Dina) Brobst both of Freeport; four grandchildren, Trevor Brobst, Tiffany (Cody) Calam, Aiden Brobst, Austin Brobst: two step- grandsons, Matt (Kelly) Jacobs and Nate (Jen) Jacobs; one great-grandson, Owen Calam. Also surviving are two sister-in-laws, Peggy Brobst of Freeport and Jeri Osborne of Buffalo, MO, several nieces, and a nephew.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 19, 2014 at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Calvin Haines will officiate. Visitation will be Monday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Larry’s memory.
