Leo M. Shockey *

Leo M. Shockey, 84, of Loveland, died of cancer Oct. 28, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Colome, S.D., to and Dollie Hayford Shockey. The family moved from , Neb., to City, Mo., and then to on the western slope.

He married Rose Emma Barnett April 16, 1936, in Steamboat Springs. She died April 14, .

He married Dixie -Rider Sept. 11, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Mr. Shockey worked for the Denver Rio Grande Wester Railroad, in mining and for the government with the Navy at Pearl Harbor in Oahu, , during World War II. He returned to Granby and operated an electrical contracting and refrigeration company. He then worked as an electrician for the Bureau of Reclamation (1964), the Department of Energy and Western Area Power (1977).
While in Granby, he served as fire chief and on the school board. He moved to Loveland in 1972 from Granby and retired from Western Area Power in .

He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Loveland Rotary Club and Masonic Orders. He loved fishing, traveling and cooking.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Shockey of Loveland; two sons, Terry Shockey and wife Anita of Thornton and Melvin Shockey and wife Patricia of Wilton, Calif.; four grandchildren, Karen Shockey of Ames, Iowa, Erin Shockey of Thornton, Marvin Shockey and wife Julie of Rio Vista, Calif., and Shawn Shockey and wife Chris of Carmichael, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Jillian, Catie, Stuart, Jaimie and Jake Shockey of ; three brothers, Leonard Shockey and wife Mavis of Hemphill, Texas, Lawrence Shockey and wife of Anaheim, Calif., and Lloyd Shockey and wife Darlene of Pineland, Texas; and a sister, Leatha Sturms of Denver.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Cremation has been conducted.
