Louis R. Shockey
Louis R. Shockey, 65, a prominent citizen of Berlin, died of a heart attack at the wheel of his automobile Friday evening as he was driving on Main Street. He had recently returned from Memorial Hospital in Cumberland where he had taken treatment. Mr. Shockey was the proprietor of the Shockey Hotel for many years, and had retired to a home on Broadway only three years ago. His wife, Mrs. Emma Horchler Shockey, died four months ago. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edward Reed, Jr., and a grandson, Eddie, who was his constant companion. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Edward Troll, Jr. of Somerset, and a brother, Henry Shockey of Berlin. Mr. Shockey was a member of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church. Funeral services were held Monday, July 4, at 2 o’clock in the Johnson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ira C. Harkins and Dr. D. S. Stephen officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
