Margaret R Whitehead *

Margaret “Peggie” (Carter) Whitehead, 84, of Morantown, passed away on Monday, September 23, at Peace Healthcare Mountain City Center, Frostburg. Born April 5, in Mt. Savage, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph and Sarah () Carter; husband Dale; infant son, Brian; siblings Joseph Carter, Rosemary (), Sally (Tuscanco), John Carter, Ann (Martirano), Tom Carter, and infant brother, Jimmy.

A graduate of Mt. Savage High School, Class of , Peggie attended Frostburg State College and worked for many years as an Instructional Assistant in the Allegany County Public School System.

Peggie was a devout Christian and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mt. Savage, where at one time she served as parish council president and as director of the C.C.D. Sunday School program.

Peggie was a devoted homemaker. She loved and took great pride in tending to the home that she and Dale built together. Peggie loved all kinds of music and enjoyed dancing, singing, and playing the piano. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. She treasured time together with her siblings reminiscing, shopping with her girls, and cooking Sunday dinners for everyone.

Surviving are her children, Karen Spence and husband Jarret, Michael Whitehead and wife Lindsay and Lorri Mellon and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Cameron Spence and wife , Abigail and husband Josh, Whitehead, Whitehead, Whitney Richard; great grandson, Aidan Spence; sister, Mary Lou Dickel; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family extends its gratitude to those who provided care for Peggie as her health declined, including the staff at Peace Healthcare at Mountain City.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at God’s Ark of Safety, 18606 Cherry Ln SW, Frostburg, MD at 11 A.M. with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be: Mike Whitehead, Jarret Spence, Cameron Spence, Jeff Mellon, Josh Wetzel, and honorary pallbearer, Aidan Spence.
