Mrs. Susan Shockey
Mrs. Susan Shockey
On Tuesday of last week occurred the funeral services of Mrs. Susan Shockey at her home two miles south of this city. She has never been strong since the death of their little daughter, Edna, two years ago. Her serious illness began last October, and culminated in her death on the morning of April first.
Mrs. Shockey’s maiden name was Susan Ditch. She married Abraham Shockey in Pennsylvania, in 1875. The young couple came to Iowa in 1880. Five children were given them, two of whom preceeded the mother to the other land; two sons, Floyd and Earl, and the little daughter, Edna, are left to the father.
Mrs. Shockey was a woman of worth and energy, clear of mind and true of heart, a woman truly christian. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this day, and the services were conducted by her pastor Rev. J. G. Van Ness, and were very largely attended. Mrs. Shockey was forty-two years of age. A large circle of friends grieve over her death. Her sun went down at noon, but it rose for her brighter, fairer in another world.
