Orville E Shockey *

Mr. Orville Shockey, 97, formerly of Waynesboro, PA, went to his eternal home, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his granddaughter’s home in Greencastle, PA, surrounded by his family.

Born August 18, 1926 in the Fairview area of Quincy Township, Franklin County, he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Rosie V. (Welsh) Shockey

Mr. Shockey served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

He and his wife, the late Goldie J. (Peck) Shockey, were married on April 30, 1949. They were married for over 68 years when she passed away August 7, 2017.

Orville was a hardworking man. He worked various jobs throughout his life. He retired from Franklin County Prison where he worked as a security guard.

Mr. Shockey was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of several social organizations including Letterkenny Fish and Game Association and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his family and friends.

Orville is survived by two siblings; a daughter-in-law; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Orville E. “Gene” Shockey; one sister; and four brothers.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 16, 2024 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Gregory Helman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy where military graveside honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Friday morning, in the funeral home.
